A belt scale is used to continuously measure and report flow rates and totalized amounts of materials being transported on a conveyor belt. The weight of the material transported is determined by weighing the belt load and measuring the belt speed.
The belt speed remains constant while the feed rate is regulated by varying the belt loading if required. Alternatively the conveyor belt can be stopped after a pre-defined volume has been transported (for example when batching at loading stations).
The length and material of the conveyor belt can differ to suit the customer’s requirements and properties of the transported material. Belt scales are used in production and logistics, for measuring throughput and consumption in production plants, internal balancing of supply and discharge, load limit signaling, and batching at loading stations or metering hopper control. Schenck Process belt scales have accuracies as precise as +/- 0.25 percent.
