Mechanical Design Engineer (North Ryde, QLD)

About the role:

You will be accountable for all aspects of engineering of various projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager or Lead Engineer. This means providing engineering support to a broad internal and external stakeholder group on technical, design, and project related matters through:

  • Designing vibrating screens and feeders and supporting the project from tender phase to commissioning and operation

  • Where necessary troubleshooting issues during the testing, commissioning and operating phases of the project. This includes the use of modal analysis to predict structural failure modes of the equipment and implement design changes.

  • Ensuring designs meet requirements, and technical risks are controlled and communicated

  • Managing engineering projects ensuring the design is delivered to the right quality, in budget, and on time

  • Providing supplier, manufacturing, and project management support


To be successful in the above duties, You will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering

  • Demonstrated industry experience (min 5 years+) including design of heavy machinery, mining and processing plants, fabrication and assembly practices

  • Practical static and dynamic FEA experience (min 5 years+) and proficiency, preferably with Ansys, with experience calibrating FEA results to experimental data collected from the field.

  • Practical CAD experience and proficiency, preferably with Autodesk Inventor

  • Sound knowledge of project management practices and procedures 

  • Proficiency in MS Office as well as MRP systems

  • Prior experience designing vibrating machinery operating in harsh environments will be highly regarded

  • Prior experience with modal analysis will be highly regarded
