The re-filling of sand boxes or hoppers on trains and trams is an important process to ensure the correct operation of the vehicle’s braking system and to assist with wheel traction, when tracks are slippery.

These systems are engineered to address problems associated with sand box filling within the rail and tram industry, which too commonly include manual handling of sand bags. This often results in material spillage, unnecessary labour and an inefficient material handling process.

The Schenck Process MULTIRAIL SandPiper static or mobile sand filling stations instead provide a flexible, non-spill, dust free system, which are simple to operate, reduce manual handling significantly, as well as prevent material spillage.

The systems pneumatically and efficiently pump sand from a hopper location into the sand box on the train or tram.

For precise weighing during transport, of an entire train or rail-wagons, Schenck Process’s MULTIRAIL technology offers solutions that help make rail transport processes safe, accurate, economical and controlled.

With the intension to help prevent track derailment, our train weighing solutions include track-based systems that measure a train’s load, for safer transport and accurate measurement. In addition to this, they also provide recognition of any wheel damage.

Our rail weight solutions also help allow and compile legal-for-trade weight data as the basis for calculating the weight of individual wagons and trains. Software solutions can be used as a stand-alone or as an integrated application.
