Scrap prices are going through the roof and there is only one way of checking this trend during scrap charging: the weighing systems used at the scrap yard must establish the precise, weight-controlled composition of nominal volumes of different scrap qualities for every single cast. And they must also be accurate enough to minimise the volume of high value alloy materials in secondary metallurgy.
From this point of view, precise scrap charging for converters and electric furnaces also makes economic sense. Money really can be saved here by optimising charging.
The gravimetric loading process also places stringent mechanical requirements on the weighing system. The high load impacts of differently sized scrap parts falling off vehicles and the high levels of mud, waste, water and scrap residue contamination require extremely robust scale solutions.

Static train scales calculate the gross and tare weight of rail-based loading vehicles by means of the bearing loads on the wheels. These conventional weighbridges or wheel load scales are often designed following the principle of a weighing track and are the most robust and a more maintenance-friendly solution.
We recommend platform scales or weighbridges if there is no connection to the track. Scrap buckets or scrap chutes, heavy duty vehicles or indoor cranes are used to load the scrap.
Scrap ferries or trailers are just about perfect as weighing equipment. They are fitted inside the loading vehicle between the loading platform and vehicle frame.
