Discharge scales are scales used in a filling process, for example for recipe-controlled weighing.

Following a recipe, they can combine different ingredients from previously separated containers, each with a separate feeding screw.

In terms of design, classic discharge weighing only allows one component to be weighed at a time. The weighing barrel or container is first filled with a volume greater than the nominal volume required. The precise weighing, which in this case results in a recipe, involves discharge from the scale hopper. At the start, the scales display shows zero (tared) and the amount discharged is shown as a negative figure. This method is recommended for challenging products with a tendency to e.g. stick.

Product can be discharged from Schenck Process discharge scales at two speeds, coarse and fine flow, until the specified nominal value is attained. The tolerance is then checked.

If underweight, additional product can be fed with the fine flow. If overweight, a message appears. An upstream and main contact optimise the feeding process. Additional product is filled after the plausibility check, if required, until a maximum level is reached.
